Pieta (Jenicke) Bookends
These alabaster bookends feature a timeless depiction of Mary holding Jesus's body. Able to keep heavy books in line, they both organize and decorate your home. This pair of bookends makes the perfect personal gift for all who have devotion to Christ crucified.
The original artwork is an oil painting by contemporary artist Jason Jenicke.
The bookends are made from stone-cast alabaster here in our shop in Steubenville, Ohio. Alabaster is a building and decorating material created from the mineral gypsum that has been used since the time of the ancient Egyptian Pharaohs. It boasts an attractive smooth finish.
Each measures roughly 6" x 8", including the 4"x 6" inset image plaque, and is 3" deep.
Text reads:
"O my afflicted Mother! Queen of martyrs and of sorrows, thou didst so bitterly weep over thy Son, who died for my salvation; but what will thy tears avail me if I am lost?
By the merit, then of thy sorrows, obtain for me true contrition for my sins, and a real amendment of life, together with constant and tender compassion for the sufferings of Jesus and thy dolours. Amen."
