This reproduction of St. Jose Sanchez del Rio by René Martínez Valadez shows the young man walking to his death, with the soles of his feet cut off. He is praying the rosary and holding a palm branch, symbolizing the victory of his martyrdom. The sash around his body holds the words he spoke to his mother to convince her to let him join the Cristero war: "Never was it so easy to become a saint," and he went on, "I don't want to miss the opportunity". So, he went to war, and was martyred by the Mexican government at the age of 14. Behind him is the banner of the Cristeros, and on the ground next to his feet is a single bullet.

The projected cross and lines are a cubist representation of Christ the crucified King and, at the same time, a gateway to holiness. The triangular crystal shapes represent the Trinity and the more spiritual part of the composition, which, if you look at his foot, José is crossing into.

This image comes as a fine art print in a wood frame with a gold finish.

This frame is better than some of the small sculptures I've seen locally. I'm very pleased!!!

A strikingly beautiful and original image. Attractive frame complements the images nicely. My son is so happy to hang this First Communion gift in his room.
