This reproduction of the Expulsion from the Garden of Eden by Thomas Cole shows our original parents walking out from fiery gates guarding the verdant gardens of paradise into a desolate broken wasteland.
The artist, Thomas Cole (1801-1848) was a self-taught landscape painter that emigrated to the United States from England at the age of 18. He founded the Hudson River Valley school of art, which focused on romanticized, hyper-detailed landscapes of the American countryside.
