Saint Matilda was a virtuous queen born around the end of the 9th century, and mother of 5 children, including Otto I who reunited the Holy Roman Empire. She was known for her generosity, piety, kindness to the poor, and kind treatment of the sick and imprisoned. She is patron saint of large families, disappointing children, falsely accused people, queens, widows, and second marriages.
