This intimate scene is a great meditational piece to remind you and others of the reality of the Mass, to keep your eyes and heart on Christ in the Eucharist even while being persecuted - for we do not belong to the world but to the Kingdom of Heaven. Encased in a gold frame, a quality reproduction of this painting can be yours, a treasured addition to your home, parish, or office for years to come!

In the year 1883, the Irish painter Aloysius O'Kelly created this scene of the domestic Irish celebrating their faith during times of repression, which we now offer to you as our Mass in a Connemara Cabin Gold Framed Art! The scene depicts what the Irish called "The Stations," the celebration of the Sacraments in the secrecy of a rural/domestic setting by the Irish during times of repression to the Catholic Church (such as under the Penal Laws). Amidst the ordinary tools of everyday life - a butter churn, pots, dishes, a kitchen table - young girls, working men, and housewives kneel in reverence while a young priest reveals Christ in the Eucharist to them during the celebration of the Mass. This gathering highlights how the celebration of the Mass forged the social bonds and heritage of the Irish people when their faith and culture was repressed, along with the closeness of the community with the priest. The original oil on canvas painting - although lost for about 100 years - now hangs in the National Gallery of Ireland in Dublin.

    mass in a connemara cabin

when the priest says the prayers at Consecration,"Hoc est enim Corpus meum", he brings the Lord to us in the flesh, as did Mary when she said, "Let it be done to me according to thy word; "And the Word was made flesh" Mass in a connemara cabin is a reminder of that mystery.
