These alabaster bookends feature St. Gianna Molla with two of her children and a prayer for doctors. Keeping heavy books in line, they both organize and decorate your home. This pair of bookends makes the perfect personal gift for doctors, nurses, physician's assistants and all who care for our health.
While pregnant with her fourth child, St. Gianna was diagnosed with a fibroma in her uterus. A doctor herself, she knew the risks, and could have morally had an operation that would have saved her but probably result in the death of her child. Instead, she demanded that if it came to a choice, her family and the doctors save the baby. It did, but St. Gianna died with the name of Jesus on her lips, and the fruit of her loving and devoted sacrifice was a beautiful daughter.
The bookends are made from stone-cast alabaster here in our shop in Steubenville, Ohio. Alabaster is a building and decorating material created from the mineral gypsum that has been used since the time of the ancient Egyptian Pharaohs. It boasts an attractive smooth finish and will last for years to come.
Each measures roughly 6" x 8", including the 4"x 6" inset image plaque, and is 3" deep.
"O merciful Father, we pray for our doctors and all those whom you have called to study and practice the arts of healing the sick and the prevention of disease and pain. Strengthen them in body and soul, and bless their work, that they may give comfort to those for whose salvation your Son became Man, lived on this earth, healed the sick, and suffered and died on the Cross. Amen.
St. Gianna Molla,
Patron Saint of Doctors, Pray for us."
