These alabaster bookends feature the martyrdom of St. Sebastian, patron of athletes. Keeping heavy books in line, they both organize and decorate your home. This pair of bookends makes the perfect personal gift for the wrestler or soccer star in your family, or an excellent present to anyone with a devotion to this steadfast saint.

The original painting Renaissance painting St. Sebastian was done by Valentin de Boulonge in the early 1600's. It's dramatic use of lighting conveys the suffering and pain this martyr and soldier underwent for his love of Christ. This virtue of endurance made him a fitting patron for all who play sports.

The bookends are made from stone-cast alabaster here in our shop in Steubenville, Ohio. Alabaster is a building and decorating material created from the mineral gypsum that has been used since the time of the ancient Egyptian Pharaohs. It boasts an attractive smooth finish and will last for years to come.

Each measures roughly 6" x 8", including the 4"x 6" inset image plaque, and is 3" deep.

Text reads:

"St. Sebastian, you chose to be a soldier of Christ and dared to be spread faith in Him, the King of Kings. Protect all athletes from injury and harm, and pray for us to have the endurance to pursue our heavenly prize: eternal life with Christ. Amen."
